This has been the picture that has been driving me this past year, what has whispered in my earto learn about steam, lighting, and telling a story with food. I first saw a similar picture in the very first food photography book I read and loved the coziness, the shadow play and the sense that someone had just gotten up from his lunch to attend to something out of the frame.
This picture was not what I had in mind, although it happens on a near nightly occurrence if I'm making pasta and I get distracted. Pretty typical scene in my kitchen, come to think about it, the potholders scattered about the cabinets, splotches of liquid on the white tile and boiled over food all over my stove top. Yep, pretty typical the way I cook. But at least I can sleep well tonight knowing that I succeeded in finally making my "dream" picture a reality.
